“Eat your way back to happiness.”
No, it’s not the latest fad diet. It’s the firm belief of top nutritionist Patrick Holford. He believes that the blues of stressed out modern life can be lifted by ‘optimum nutrition’.
The prevalence of junk food has deprived our brains of proper nutrition. As a nation we ‘pop’ close to a billion anti-depressants every year – with more than half of us reporting feeling ‘apathetic and unmotivated’. But super-nutritious brain food offers an alternative to this depression and also relief from such degenerative illnesses of the mind, as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Backed by scientific research that links IQ to diet, Holford recommends a diet rich in complex carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fats, amino acids and vitamins and minerals.
Holford says: “The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same things and expecting different results. But that’s exactly what we are doing with mental health problems.”
Changing what your eat, not how much, could change the way you feel about yourself and your life.
Holford is not alone. Professor Hyla Cass of the Los Angeles School of Medicine agrees: “Nutritional medicine is the future.”
