From your first breath to your last breath, you will inhale a billion times.
The word ‘inspiration’ literally means ‘to breathe in’. The ancient Chinese were great believers in the healing power of the breath. That’s why they developed the art of Chi Kung
or ‘internal energy exercise’. Chi Kung makes no distinction between the
mind and the body. Master Lam Kam Chuen explains: “If you think of yourself as
an entire field of energy, you will get the idea. This particular form of
energy exercise affects your entire being.”
Chi Kung is one of the four pillars of traditional Chinese medicine along
with acupuncture, massage and herbal medicine. Unlike the other three, you can
teach yourself Chi Kung very easily.
The exercises are simple and not at all strenuous. They involve using your
breath to raise the level of ‘Chi’ or life-force in your body. This boosts your
immune system. It also combats stress and anxiety, which are seen, by Chinese
healers, as the main drains on our inner reservoir of ‘life force’. Chi Kung
releases energy blockages in the body. Our inner sea of Chi, or Tan Tien, is
located an inch or so below the navel, the original source of a foetus’s life
inside its mother’s womb.

TRICKS TO TRY TO BOOST YOUR CHI
Stand in a relaxed, upright postion
Rest the side of your right thumb over your navel, place your left hand
comfortably on top.
Lower your eyelids, but keep your eyes open. Breathe naturally.
Start at two minutes, and build up to five.
