PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
February 12th to February 18th 2007

MONDAY February 12
Museum future predictably unpredictable...

Hairdressers can't cut their own hair, Dentists can't drill their own teeth, Psychiatrists can't analyse themselves and astrologers who think they can see their own futures are deluded. Some while ago I opened a Psychic Museum. It is now on hold while while the idea is redeveloped and improved. When asked, by a journalist how long it will be until we re-open, I explained that however good I may be at seeing the future for others, I cannot predict this because I am too personally involved. For some reason, that has caused much amusement among media commentators this weekend.

TUESDAY February 13
Mercury and Valentine's cards

Mercury, the communication planet, now stands still in the sky. It's a great time to develop misunderstandings or have genuine gestures misinterpreted. It's also a fine time for missing crucial pieces of information. It is hardly, though, the most auspicious climate for sending or receiving Valentine's cards! Even if your missive reaches its intended destination, it may get as far as the head of the recipient but fail to reach their heart. Make sure, whatever you do or say, today... or tomorrow, that it is sincere. Commitments made under a stationary Mercury tend to prove very hard to break.

WEDNESDAY February 14
What Valentine's night holds...

Picture a couple, enjoying a romantic evening stroll. What kind of Moon do you envisage? Tonight though, the Moon is nearly new. For an auspicious romantic outlook, you want Venus and Mars aligned, as now... but you don't want them also forming a tight triangle of irritation with Saturn. And ideally, you wouldn't have Mercury, the communication planet, standing still. But it's not all bad news!

THURSDAY February 15
Benefits of retrograde Mercury

Hi Jonathan,
I have heard that things are supposed to go wrong when the communication planet is moving backwards. But under a retrograde Mercury, my son was born, we adopted our daughter and I met my hubby. I love these times. Is this, do you think, because I was born under a retrograde Mercury?
Thanks,
Marie

Dear Marie,
Actually, I think we can all benefit from a 'retrograde Mercury' phase like the one we're going through now. It's not really about impediment and delay. It's about a chance to stop, reflect and make choices rather than just trundling along automatically.

FRIDAY February 16
Ghosts from the future?

Hello Jonathan,
You recently suggested that most ghosts are 'psychic recordings', memories captured in the brickwork of buildings. I suspect it is wood, not brick that retains this information. Once, I asked the owner of an antique shop about haunted furniture. She showed me cupboards that opened on their own and chairs that rocked unoccupied. For a second, as I looked at an old three-piece suite, I was witnessing a party decades before. I still wonder if the folk I saw had seen me... as a ghost?
Meg

Dear Meg,
You mean some ghosts could be from the future? That's fascinating.

SATURDAY February 17
Venus, the astrological Rotavator

Venus, later this week, moves into Aries. Venus signifies love and prosperity. So we can safely conclude that good times lie ahead for those born under the Ram. It is not, though, true to say that romance and finance can only enter your life during the three or four weeks of each year when Venus is in our sign. Other cosmic configurations can produce the same result. Sometimes, indeed, we gain no immediate obvious benefit from having this planet in our sector of the sky. It is best thought of as an astrological Rotavator, preparing the ground for and sowing the seed of some positive change that will gradually grow and blossom over the coming weeks and months.
