PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

November 30 2009 to December 6 2009

Monday November 30
When Worlds Collide

Dear Jonathan,
How, if I acted one way instead of another last week, did my predicted circumstances still come out the same the following week (and with alarming accuracy too)? Surely, had I taken the other road my journey would have been different? James

Dear James,
Some people believe we slip silently from one alternate universe to another, more often than we realise. In another world, another me is now writing different forecasts for another you. There are, in theory, an infinite number of these other worlds. Or at least, there were until they built the Large Hadron Collider!

Tuesday December 1
Full Moon before the Blue Moon

Tonight's Full Moon is not the last Full Moon of the month. The Moon will be Full once more on New Year's Eve. December is, therefore, a 'Blue Moon' month. And this won't be just any old ordinary Blue Moon. The last Full Moon of the decade will provide a partial eclipse. We can all expect a very special time towards the end of the month - and by that, I don't mean the obvious. If you are hoping that the impossible might become possible the sky would appear to be on your side!

Wednesday December 2
By the Light of the Sillyvery Moon

My eight-year-old daughter no longer thinks the Moon is 'pretty'. She thinks it's annoying. She's been trying to work out why it changes shape during the month... and why it is currently coming up just as the Sun is going down. I've explained that this is because, the Full Moon is always opposite the Sun but she is not convinced. 'Why' she asks, 'do the Sun and Moon go up and down?' When I say it's because we are spinning in space, she looks at me suspiciously. 'Daddy,' she says 'is this one of your silly jokes?'

Thursday December 3
No Collider No Cry

Often, in zodiac forecasts, I include lyrics from popular songs. I may have to drop this habit soon. In 2010, the predictions will be published daily in Japan. I don't want to make life too hard for the translators! But, while writing for Aries today, I couldn't resist quoting from Bob Marley's Redemption Song. Though he died in 1981, I got a funny shiver when I read the next line, 'Have no fear for atomic energy / 'Cause none of them can stop the time.' Why, it's almost as if he anticipated our current concerns about the Large Hadron Collider!

Friday December 4
Collider Quotes

Dear Jonathan,
Each time I hear about the Hadron Collider it makes me think about Atlantis. I hope I'm wrong. Jules

Perhaps the Collider will show us more than we ever imagined and this will bring us closer together. Anon

If the Collider changes reality how will we tell? We are a part of that reality! Laura As a physicist I don't think the Collider will cause a time reversal. But I am convinced particles will appear. Carol

You really feel something as trivial as this Collider can upset time and the universe? I Have faith in fate. Duncan

Saturday December 5
Your Week Ahead

Look out for shooting stars tomorrow night. Spaceship Earth is travelling through a sector of the sky where there's 'space debris'. Some of this will burn up, spectacularly, as it makes contact with our atmosphere. It's not the biggest meteor shower of the year. It may not look as impressive as some of the fairy lights that now adorn our homes and streets. But these lights are real and, according to tradition, powerful. If you see one, you're entitled to make a wish. Later this week, we'll be in the 'Dark Of The Moon'. That's a time when mystics experience visions and even 'ordinary people' tend to have vivid, prophetic dreams. There's magic in the air!
