PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

April 19 2010 to April 25 2010

Monday April 19
Mercury

If you could see Mercury this week, it would seem to be slipping slowly backwards through the zodiac each night. Actually, though, Mercury is not visible. Only Venus, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter are 'out and about'. On Wednesday, we'll see Mars near the Moon and on Thursday, we may have shooting stars. Mercury, though, now sets too close to the Sun to be seen. Nor is it really reversing. That's an optical illusion, caused by our own movement through space. Still, though, many of us have already begun to find commerce, transport and communication arrangements turning rather topsy-turvy.
I remain suspicious of that Large Hadron Collider. I have been wondering, for some while, whether it could shunt us into a parallel word - where everything is the same, apart from one crucial factor. Like, er, for example, planes that don't fly! Or we could blame it on Mercury turning retrograde. The transportation planet has been 'stationary' for a few days now. If this is the explanation, we might expect things to improve by early May. Either way, you don't have to be an astrologer to predict that soon we'll hear about a significant change in jet engine design.

Tuesday April 20
Icelandic Volcano

This is not the first time an Icelandic volcano has stopped travel and created havoc across Europe. In 1783, the sky went dark for weeks after a similar eruption ruined crops and prevented sea voyages. Those plumes of ash came from 'Laki', named after the Norse god that we tend to call Loki. Loki, roughly, equates to Mercury in Roman mythology. Mercury, the planet, is retrograde (apparently moving backwards) now. Mercury also governs transportation and commerce. The word 'volcano' comes from Vulcan, the Roman fire-god. The Icelandic equivalent of this deity seems to be most upset about something now!

Wednesday April 21

Dear Jonathan,
In my forecast, recently, you wrote, 'What you need is on its way to you and, if you relax, it will somehow help move everything on.' What if what we need has already arrived and we didn't grab the opportunity when it was there? Will it come again? Or is it once only - and if we messed it up, too bad? Kerrie

Dear Kerrie,
I can only repeat what I said. 'What you need is on its way to you and, if you relax, it will somehow help move everything on.' The key word there, is relax!

Thursday April 22
Like a Circle in a Spiral

Hi Jonathan,
The Hadron Collider is a big underground circle. Thinking about it the other day, I remembered JR Tolkien. 'One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.' Trevor

Jonathan,
Shortly after they switched on that Large Hadron Collider, my clock lost 45 minutes. I corrected the hands and it has kept perfect time ever since. Jane

Dear Jonathan,
Gnostics believe the power of the infinite is contained within all living things. Astrophysicists are looking for invisible energy to explain the accelerating expansion of the universe. Maybe they're looking for the same thing. Mr O.

Friday April 23
Ask the Astrologer

Dear Jonathan,
Can you tell if a person is an alcoholic or an addict from their horoscope? I am one. When I had my chart read recently, I felt the astrologer was holding back some bad news! Sheila

Dear Sheila,
We are all prone to addiction of one kind or another. Every horoscope reveals where we are most susceptible to patterns of bad behaviour... along with the best way to overcome these or keep them in check. I don't know what your astrologer saw (or how experienced they were) but you should probably have asked each other more questions.

Saturday April 24
Your Week Ahead

This week, once again, Saturn opposes Uranus. Over the past couple of years, these two planets have lined up against each other in the zodiac several times. They don't do this often. Just a couple of times a century, generally. They shake up the whole world when they take such positions. We're not yet at the end of the celestial cycle, but for all that we're now seeing reminders of how insecure and unsettled our future seems, we're also about to start seeing new solutions that could yet make all the difference.

Sunday April 25
Week Ahead Part Two (Love Focus)

This week, once again, Saturn opposes Uranus. Over the past couple of years, these two planets have lined up against each other in the zodiac several times. They don't do this often. Just a couple of times a century, generally. They shake up the whole world when they take such positions.
