PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

December 13 2010 to December 19 2010

Monday December 13
Royal dates

Hi Jonathan,
I will be in London around the time of the Royal Wedding, as will some of my family. I know you have been a little negative about the date. Do you suspect terrorist activity? Billy

Dear Billy,
I still maintain there were better days, next year, to pick for a wedding, royal or otherwise. I'm still surprised that the Royal Family does not have a court astrologer. I'm still sure that there will be people keen to register all kinds of protests. But the date is not disastrous and it will be perfectly safe to be in London.

Tuesday December 14
Cancerian

Hi, Jonathan,
On the subject of changing the name of Cancer, all of the signs are the Latin names of constellations. I don't think you could have eleven Latin names and one sticking out like Moon Child (ugh). I don't think Cancerian would work either. One usually doesn't say Geminian or Leonian or Capricornian. Of course one could change all the names to English: Ram, Bull, Twins, etc. But I'm a Virgo and I'm not so sure I'd like to go around saying, 'I'm a Virgin.' Joanne

Dear Joanne,
Yes... but we do say Sagittarian, Libran, Aquarian and Piscean.

Wednesday December 15
Expert Advice

Hi Jonathan,
An astrologer I once consulted said it was important to ask each astrologer what they felt the purpose of their life was. This, apparently, is what gives an astrological reading its 'colour'. So, may I ask what's yours? Olwen

Dear Olwen,
Now that's advice with which I heartily concur. Before we seek help from any expert, we should always ask what they consider important. I'm still striving to understand the purpose of life in general and my own in particular... but I'd like to think it has something to do with helping others discover their hidden potential.

Thursday December 16
To Life

Dear Jonathan,
I have always wondered if souls reincarnate under the same sign each lifetime? Maria

Dear Maria,
Although astrology is a form of divination, it does not give me unfettered access to the mind of the divine! But I very much doubt that souls reincarnate under the same sign if, indeed, they reincarnate at all.

Jonathan,
what do you believe happens to us when we die? I fear that we become nothing. Danielle

Dear Danielle,
To me, the question is not what happens to us when we die but what happens when we really start to live.

Friday December 17
Christmas in 3D

Dear Jonathan,
Will you be commenting on the astrological significance of a lunar eclipse on the full moon that takes place on the winter solstice? Is this auspicious or ominous? Maureen

Dear Maureen,
The solstice lunar eclipse will be followed, in early January, by a solar eclipse. Many mystics believe that during the time between any pair of eclipses, while the Sun Moon and Earth are aligned in three dimensions... a portal opens up. For a couple of weeks, there's a doorway, through which it is possible to pass into 'other realms'. It could be a very interesting Christmas.

Saturday December 18
Your Week Ahead

This week's big event is the lunar eclipse on the solstice. The solstice always symbolises a turning point. It marks the point in the year where the Sun seemingly changes direction in its journey along the horizon. In different years, though, we get different indications of what, or who, may be about to 'turn'. This eclipse speaks of doubt followed by certainty, fear replaced by hope. It seems as if, lately, individuals and nations around the world, have been reacting to anxieties and insecurities rather than planning positively for the future. But that may all be about to change.
