PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

December 19 2016 to December 25 2016

Solstice Boost

There's a lot of movement in the skies today. Mercury turns retrograde (just in time to make sure all our Christmas presents get lost in the post!), and Mars moves into Pisces. And while Mercury's backwards motion will add to the Christmas mayhem, it also brings a chance to reflect and be grateful - which is very seasonal too! Mars' new home reminds us to be sensitive to our level of energy. Don't forget to put your feet up! The Solstice is coming, just in time to bring a boost we'll all appreciate.

Bright New Future

'The British are coming, the British are coming!' shouted Paul Revere in a poem by Longfellow. He was attempting to alert revolutionary forces, but I'm echoing his words to announce the imminent arrival of the Solstice. This, though, is no enemy force to contend with, nor should we find its arrival surprising. The Sun returns to Capricorn at this time every year on its mid-season ride. And it brings a renewed focus on what's achievable. Right now, we can all allow ourselves to hope that a bright new future is possible.

Solstice

Happy Solstice! Like Queen Elizabeth, it feels like the astrological year has two birthdays. The Solstices represent a time to renew our priorities, and, with the Sun entering Capricorn, we'll all feel a little more ambitious and capable of transforming dreams into reality. Reaching a milestone brings maturity that only experience can provide... or at least - that's the idea! If the Solstice is a birthday, surely it should be playful, hopeful and downright enjoyable too! I reckon if the Queen can have two birthdays, surely we can have the best of both worlds.

Bright Future

In June, I suggested that the Solstice brought us an opportunity to reflect and be thankful. As we prepare to celebrate the arrival of a New Year, with Mercury retrograde, this Solstice brings another opportunity to be grateful. For many, 2016 has had more than its share of difficulties. But there are always reasons for gratitude... and hope. Here you are, reading these words, looking to create a more positive future for yourself. That alone shows just how much more life has to offer.

Positive Change

Next week, we have the first 'hit' of the astrological events which will come to shape 2017. A link such as the one between Jupiter and Uranus hasn't been felt since 2003. Just before it arrives, two Minor Grand Trines form this weekend. They also feature these two planets. With Venus' kindly presence, Jupiter's positivity, and Saturn's longevity, they suggest that the changes instigated by Uranus can have really positive benefits which we will feel long into the future.

Your Week Ahead

'Merry Christmas', if you celebrate, and 'Happy Holidays' to those who are just celebrating a day off! If you're taking vacation time, spare a thought for the planets, as they are putting in some serious overtime over the festive season. This week, the exciting and historic Jupiter-Uranus opposition forms, making a T-square with Pluto. Simultaneously, other configurations develop involving Saturn, Uranus, Venus, Jupiter, the Moon and Chiron! St Nick had better watch out... the night skies are thick with traffic!
