Secret papers revealed by the Ministry of Defence last week reveal RAF jets
scrambled to intercept UFOs picked up on radar screens at Lakenheath airbase.
At least a dozen objects were spotted over East Anglia, moving at up to
4,000mph. Fighter jets tried to make contact for seven hours, but the agile, darting
craft easily eluded the pilots.
That was 1956. Almost half a century on, we have no idea what the UFOs were -
but it is certain that their technology was hugely superior to anything we
could have built in the Fifties.
I have long been convinced that some higher intelligence has been watching
Earth for many years, perhaps centuries. It's fun but futile to speculate
whether they are beings from another planet, another era or even another dimension.
One thing is for sure - they have a mischievous sense of humour.
