PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

April 25 2011 to May 1 2011

Monday April 25
Our Man in Peru

Greetings from Peru! I'm here on a working holiday, exploring the Sacred Valley of the Inca Kings, the ancient lost city of Machu Picchu and the mysterious lines in the Nazca desert that form pictures and symbols, only visible from high in the air. I'm also hoping to talk to some people who believe that on November 11, (11.11.11) a cosmic 'gate' will be 'activated', allowing spiritual seekers to ascend to a level of higher consciousness. Maybe too, I'll encounter some of Paddington's relatives. I've brought along a few marmalade sandwiches, just in case they're helpful. More reports soon!

Perusing Peru

Yesterday, I described the lost city of Machu Picchu as 'ancient'. As I travel further into Peru, I'm learning a lot. Like Stonehenge, Callanish or the pyramids at Giza, key aspects of Machu Picchu were positioned to reflect astronomical phenomena. But, compared to these truly ancient places, this Incan citadel is a whippersnapper. It's even a thousand years younger than the Mayan city of Chichen Itza, in Mexico, where I once watched a 'serpent of shadow' slip down the side of a pyramid on the day of the equinox. So Machu Picchu isn't really ancient. But it is amazing.

Indiana Cainer

I'm writing this aboard a small train, trundling slowly along a single track, carved out of the mountain, beside a racing river. 'Hardcore', proper adventurers walk this journey to Machu Picchu over several days. I thought about walking too. But, then, I wouIdn't have been able to keep writing and sending back the daily forecasts. So, I'm on the train, in Peru, heading for a place that, like the pyramids and Stonehenge, was deliberately designed to reflect an astronomical, cosmological view of the world. Soon, I'll see this mystery for the first time. I'll let you know how it feels.

Thursday April 28
Lost and Found

Not only is the ancient lost city of Machu Picchu not really ancient... it wasn't ever really lost. The official story is that it 'vanished' when the Spanish invaded Peru and conquered the Incas. It was rediscovered in 1911, by an American; Hiram Bingham. It's perhaps more accurate to say that the city got overgrown by the lush vegetation of the area. The locals felt it was more appropriate to keep it that way. The Spanish invaders never found it. Bingham was led to the site of the city by local people who knew, all along, where it was.

Friday April 29
Bingham Hiram Nowam

Is there a wedding or something happening today? I'm in Peru, visiting 'The Lost City of the Incas', as discovered 100 years ago by American explorer, Hiram Bingham. Hiram, was a Scorpio with an 'unaspected Venus in Sagittarius'. While travelling through a valley, he stopped on a whim, climbed the mountainside and met a hill farmer who offered him a potato. Hiram said, 'Thanks. And do you know of any lost cities round here?' The farmer gesticulated, nonchalantly, further up the mountain. A classic Venus in Sagittarius moment!

PS: William's Cancerian, Kate's Capricorn and yes, they ARE compatible.

Your May Monthly Forecast

I am often asked if all the planets ever align in the same place at once. It's extremely rare. This month, though, the beginning of May does bring an alignment of the Moon. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus. That's six planets in the sign of Aries. It's not a very 'visible' event because the participants are so close to the Sun. They are up when the Sun is up, down when it's down.... and thus, sunlight drowns them out. But it remains deeply symbolic. If you've been praying for change, here it comes!
