PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

October 24 2011 to October 30 2011

Monday October 24
Tale of the Veil

We will soon enter The Dark Of The Moon. For a night or two each month, the Moon vanishes, making it easier to see the fainter stars. Mystics say that other things become more visible too. We get helpful insights into mysterious situations, feel more able to empathise with each other and gain intriguing glimpses of the future. There is also talk of the 'veil between the realms' growing thin, implying an improved ability to hear whatever our lost loved ones and ancestors wish to tell us. They say something similar about Hallowe'en, which is now not far away.

Tuesday October 25
By the Dark of the Moon

'The Dark of The Moon' is now upon us, rendering us all more receptive to subtle signs and signals that might otherwise be missed. Some of these may be external: messages that others are trying to send us, or clues we can use to widen our understanding of events. Others are internal: indications from our own bodies that can range from aches and pains to urges and impulses. And while the female reproductive system doesn't always peak and trough in exact accordance with the Full and New Moons there is an indisputable connection between these two 28 day cycles.

Wednesday October 26
Time and Tide

The river is up behind my house right now. Large bodies of water tend to have more extreme tides at the New Moon and the Full Moon. Astrologers have long believed our emotions are like rivers that also rise and fall along with lunar rhythms while mystics and psychics see the New Moon as deeply significant. When there's no Moon to be seen in the sky, secrets from other realms are revealed to those who look. And many traditional religious festivals are timed to coincide with the New or Full Moon. Tonight begins the Indian Festival of Lights of Diwali.

Thursday October 27
Measure for Measure

Dear Jonathan,
I'm interested in all you say regarding 11/11/11. But what did we do before we had a calendar and some bright spark decided there were 60 seconds in a minute, 24 hours in a day? Who is to say 11/11/11 is really so significant? Who is to say our idea of time is right? Brenda

Dear Brenda,
Who indeed? Before the modern calendar, we measured the passage of time by the positions of the Sun and Moon. I'd love to return to that. Meanwhile, what's 'significant' is whatever most people see as important!

Friday October 28
Let the Sun Shine In

Dear Jonathan,
In 'Aquarius' by the Fifth Dimension they sing "When the moon is in the Seventh House, And Jupiter aligns with Mars, Then peace will guide the planets, And love will steer the stars." Will this occur during the Aquarian age? Is it even accurate?" Sally

Dear Sally,
Jupiter aligns with Mars several times a year. There's a monthly passage of the Moon through what most would call the zodiac's seventh house. This lovely old hit, from the musical 'Hair', is just quoting random astrological information. But I still happen to believe that love is steering the stars!

Saturday October 29
Your November Monthly Forecast

The end of November brings a solar eclipse. Even if you can't see it, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, whatever sign you happen to belong to, you will be able to feel it. It is a symbol of rebirth, the old giving way to the new. One moment, the Sun shines as usual. The next it starts to slowly disappear. Briefly, the world suspects it has gone forever. Then it returns. If, in your life, it seems as if something is threatened - or as if a light is somehow fading - fear not.

Sunday October 30
