PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

November 14 2011 to November 20 2011

Monday November 14
Planet Pong

In India last week, I spent some time watching the Moon grow full and marvelling at the brightness of Jupiter. The Moon is waning now but Jupiter remains strong and clear. Apparently, the great 'red spot' on the face of this heavenly light is a cloud, three times the size of Earth, made of sulphurous gas and ammonia. Clearly, if we were ever to get up close enough, it would smell pretty awful. But from this distance, we don't have to worry about that. We can just enjoy the way it evokes a symbolic aroma of justice and hope.

Tuesday November 15
Seeing Stars

Later this week, Spaceship Earth will pass through a cloud of cosmic debris, left by a comet. As small pieces break up in our atmosphere, they'll turn into shooting stars. We see these every year around November 16/17. They are always good for making a wish! Towards the end of the month, Venus reappears in the evening and remains a beacon of light after sunset. So, weather permitting, we'll have a nice clear view of the planet of love plus Jupiter, the planet of hope. Saturn too, should be visible near the Moon in a few days.

Wednesday November 16
Square Trance

11.11.11 seems like a long time ago but before we all forget it, I'd like to collect some stories about what people did... or how their days went. If you'd care to send in a report, I might share it in this space, especially if your day really did provide a chance to 'reboot your life' - even if this was in a challenging way. I spent a lovely 30 minutes at Trafalgar Square, sitting in a circle with about 40 people, all silently practising meditation. Later in the day, I had a life-changing idea... about which, more soon!

Thursday November 17
Flares Are Out

Lately, I've been studying the alignments for 2012, weighing up the outlook for each sign... and for the world. I've taken a special look at some of the more pessimistic prophecies now knocking around on the internet. Allegedly, the coming year promises giant solar flares that could wipe out our communication systems, mysterious new planets that may cause natural disasters, even aliens who plan to lead us all into the fifth dimension. By comparison, the prospect of a global economic collapse sounds almost comforting. But I'm still not convinced that we should steel ourselves for any of the above!

Friday November 18
Great Expectations

At this time of year, people's thoughts start turning to the festive season. Some find Christmas stressful. It makes them painfully aware of the people they cannot be with - or the clocks they cannot turn back. But even those who usually love the holidays seem to be wary of them now. It's as if there's so much gloom and uncertainty that it seems foolish to be preparing for a celebration. And 'the word on the street' is that 2012 is going to be tough. But I remain sure the outlook, in every way, is better than you might expect!

Saturday November 19
Your Week Ahead

The end of this week brings a partial Solar Eclipse. It's not visible from many places but that doesn't mean we won't feel the influence. Nor should we belittle this rare event because it is only 'partial'. Some students of mystic symbolism say there's far more meaning in an event if it doesn't go 'all the way'. It awakens an idea. It sparks off an interest. It ends up having a lasting impact. Look out in your life soon, for the realisation that something you thought of as 'too complete to challenge' can be chipped away at and changed.
