PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

December 26 2011 to January 1 2012

Monday December 26
Jovial Jovian Tidings

This weekend, Jupiter changed direction, releasing a new wave of hope and energy. You may not be able to tell this by watching the news. It can take a while for improvements in the cosmic climate to filter through - and, as journalists will confirm, whenever there's a choice between filling your front page with a heart-warming story or a terrible tale, you're likely to get more readers if you go with the grim report. But if you look around your world now, you may notice a mood that's unusually upbeat, even for the festive season. Brighter times await us.

Tuesday December 27
No Present Like The Time

New Year is rarely the most astrologically opportune moment to start a new regime. At different times, throughout each year, we all encounter different chances to start afresh. I'll say more about this in days and weeks to come. Meanwhile, a very personal story. I started a diet on the September equinox. I was already vegan. Then I gave up eating anything with wheat in it and started walking instead of riding whenever I needed to get around town. I've since lost about nine kilos. My aim, in 2012, is to keep on going and shed the same again.

Wednesday December 28
New Year's Revolution

2011 has freed the world from several dictators - and oppressive regimes will continue to collapse in 2012. Indeed, were it not for the threat of a global financial storm, we'd have to see the coming climate as deeply encouraging. As all economists will confirm, hard times tend to come whenever (and wherever) people expect them. The very act of predicting recession becomes an act of 'self-fulfilling prophecy'. Thus how bad things get depends on how bad most folk secretly think things are going to get. Optimists please take note: you have a civic duty to keep speaking positively!

Thursday December 29
Lovejoy

Comets, like eclipses, don't have to be seen in order to be felt. Though it is an incredible experience to witness such a phenomenon, as long as someone, somewhere can observe it, we all feel the benefit. Comet Lovejoy has recently been shining in the Southern Hemisphere - and although comets are often interpreted as bad news for incumbent rulers, they may also be viewed as agents of liberation and bringers of inspiration. If you're worried about what next year may bring to your life or to the world, cheer up. This is but one of many auspicious omens.

Friday December 30
You Say You Want a Resolution?

Ask any astrologer when New Year should begin and they'll probably say the equinox. It wouldn't much matter if we counted from March 21 or September 21, at least we'd be following a system that made astronomical sense. The solstice would also be a fine time. Again we'd have a clear 'reason' to start counting. Even the Chinese system of using the annual New Moon in Aquarius would be better. I wish you the best of luck with your resolutions... but remember: there will be other dates in 2012 when a fresh start comes more naturally to us all!

Saturday December 31
Your January Monthly Forecast

Another New Year, another Hogmanay, another Hootenanny. Yet the world is anxious. We have all heard about 2012. It brings the end of the Mayan calendar and, depending on which gloom-laden website you visit, it threatens us with all kinds of trouble. Just in case you are wondering how seriously to take all of this, let me set your mind at rest. Solar flares won't render us extinct, strange brown dwarf stars won't tilt the Earth on its orbit, the end is not nigh and even the dreaded recession will slowly loosen its grip as the year goes by.

I will be appearing on: Jools Holland approx 1am GMT New Years Day.
Radio London approx 11.30am GMT New Years Day.
Golden West Radio Tuesday Jan 3rd early afternoon - time tbc

Sunday January 1
