PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

October 31 2016 to November 6 2016

Halloween

Medieval French Christians believed that Halloween was when the dead rose for a horrifying carnival, the Danse Macabre, the Dance of Death. In village pageants around Europe, the faithful re-enacted this event by dressing as corpses. Originally intended to honour the dear departed, it is believed this led to our modern costumed celebrations. Today, in the wake of the New Moon and also Venus's conjunction to Saturn, what starts off as a flight of fancy, could become a moment to celebrate for years to come.

Trine Time

Today, the Sun trines Neptune. Trines are supportive links, which are so easy and natural that their effects are easy to overlook. In the words of Joni Mitchell, 'Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone'. And so it is that we tend to notice the ending of these angles rather than appreciate them when they're affecting us. Today though, the influence of Mars will help alert you to the potential available. Don't take this opportunity for inspiration for granted - seize upon it!

The Colour of Saturn

Hi Oscar,
I know that astrologers are primarily interested in the alignments that planets make to one another, rather than their actual composition. But, scientists have recently discovered that Saturn's strange, hexagonal polar storm actually changes colour. Could the planet's influence be subtly changing? Duncan

Hi Duncan,

Saturn's colours appear to change with its seasons. It's not new behavior; it's just the first time it has been captured on camera. As astrologers have been studying the planets for thousands of years, I'm confident that these effects are integral to our understanding.

Angles and Trines

More Sally Fisher Art here.

The angles used by astrologers are divined by plotting the positions of the planets, and studying the shapes made by the planetary relationships. A trine dissects the heavens into thirds, while a sextile divides it by twice as much. Though the energy of these angles is related, a trine is an opportunity that requires seizing; whereas today's Mercury-Pluto sextile is more pro-active. It may not be quite as impressive on the surface, yet it actively encourages us to transform the way we think and communicate.

Heart Whisperer

Venus is making a sympathetic trine to Uranus. The 'trine' angle, along with the 'sextile', are both considered 'soft' aspects, as opposed to 'hard' oppositions or squares. But, don't let the names mislead you. A 'hard' aspect can be just the challenge we need for personal growth and achievement. And a 'soft' aspect, whilst supportive and encouraging, may not always announce itself loudly enough to be taken advantage of! Listen carefully to the whispers of your heart this weekend. There's more to them than mere flights of fancy...

Your Week Ahead

More Sally Fisher Art here.

Like the changing of the guard, the three personal planets each move along a sign this week, following in one another's footsteps.Venus starts the week in an encouraging trine with the revolutionary Uranus, then leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn. Mars leaves Capricorn and moves into Aquarius, and Mercury enters Sagittarius. These planetary advances indicate a shift in focus and a movement of goalposts. We can be liberated from old psychological constraints, and more able to make decisions that lead us into pastures new.
