PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

March 12 2018 to March 18 2018

Monday March 12

Piece of Cake

In some ways this is a week that can't make up its mind. Over the weekend, Mars and Uranus aligned and sounded a passionate call for change. Meanwhile Saturn's link with Mercury, and subsequent relationship with Venus suggests a necessity for steady nerves. There are likely to be disruptive winds blowing. So can we have our cake and eat it too? Do we need to find a way to square the circle? As long as we persevere and make adjustments, our long-term prospects really can improve.

Damsel in Distress?

Jupiter and Saturn make a rare alignment tomorrow, but there are other players in the current celestial drama that deserve a mention. The Sun, usually so keen to take centre stage, plays a supporting role as it aligns harmoniously with Jupiter. Like a leading light's best friend, it highlights the Jupiterian qualities of warmth and creativity. Meanwhile, Venus provides the love interest with her relationship to Saturn. But she's no meek damsel waiting to be rescued. To earn her interest, we need to work for her affections.

The Bigger Picture

Jupiter and Saturn form the second in their series of semi-squares in a cycle that culminates in 2020. And with Jupiter now retrograde, there is a good chance that moments of nostalgia will be as acute as 20/20 vision. Jupiter naturally wants to explore, learn and grow. So even when it heads back the way it came, it's unlikely to retrace its footsteps without one eye on the future. Meanwhile, the discipline from Saturn's influence ensures that whatever we discover now, it won't distract us from the bigger picture.

Coming of Age

With Jupiter retrograde and somewhat in thrall to Saturn, which is in its own sign, the upcoming movements of Mars are very fitting. At the weekend he will leave Jupiter's home, Sagittarius, and move into Saturn's place of residence, Capricorn. This marks a coming of age for the energetic red planet. In his temporary residence, with the great cosmic teacher, he will be encouraged to focus and channel his restless energy. Where there's a need for motivation and dedication it bodes very well indeed.

Friday March 16

A New Cycle

This weekend's New Moon in Pisces is just close enough to take advantage of a harmonious angle with the Piscean ruler, Jupiter. Its arrival triggers the beginning of a new cycle, the birth of new perspective and the emergence of new goals. Mars' change of signs brings a fresh enthusiasm that will encourage us to do the work required to achieve them. And though the changes will be emotionally charged, the path ahead looks very encouraging. Efforts made now will have a long-term positive result.

Your Week Ahead

Happy New Year! After Mars moves into Capricorn, Aries welcomes the Sun as the Equinox arrives and we celebrate the arrival of the astrological New Year. As Mercury and Venus connect, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate the moment when the day and the night are of equal length, although Mercury turning retrograde later this week suggests that there will be ideas that need revisiting. Still, as bountiful Aries infuses us with youthful energy, we should easily be able to access the positive motivation to do what needs to be done.

Sunday March 18
