PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

July 4 2022 to July 10 2022

It's Independence Day in the United States, and, following Mars and Pluto's relationship over the weekend, emotional battles for control are taking place. Yet it would be surprising if these caused the break-up of empires or the establishment of a new world power. Mercury and Neptune's recent alignments suggest perception is key. If opposing sides can appear to save face now, conflict can be averted, and more stable relationships can be negotiated. Softly spoken, inspiring ideas are more realistic than they seem.

I scream ice-cream

Sometimes, when I'm feeling down, I turn to something we can all rely on: ice cream. While eating our feelings isn't the healthiest way to process emotion, it's certainly the tastiest! Yet, as Mars enters sensual Taurus while Mercury begins its voyage through Cancer today, no one needs to wallow in sadness. Physical desires will be triggered by heartfelt expressions of emotion. And, with both these planets aligning encouragingly, soon after changing signs, this is a cosmic recipe for sweetness rather than sorrow.

Push to Succeed

Frida Kahlo, who was born 115 years ago today, believed art should be provocative. And while an artist's idea of provocation, doesn't always have the intended effect on their audience, the right kind of controversy can be rewarding. With Mercury and Uranus linked sharply today, it's important to explain the emotional reasoning behind the changes we wish to make. There's a risk of pushing things too far. But, as Venus aligns with Mars, when promoting our own interests, a little pushiness is no bad thing.

Martin Carthy

Last week, while the world watched Paul McCartney roll back the years at Glastonbury, I saw another 60's legend performing on a tiny stage in North London. Martin Carthy didn't have the commercial success of The Beatles, but his impact on musicians, ensures that his musical legacy remains influential. Talent doesn't always get the reward it deserves. But, as Venus moves between tricky alignments with Mars and Uranus, we can't underestimate the difference creative acts of kindness will have on our future.

Degrees of Separation

The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is a challenge that links anyone in the world to the Hollywood actor within a maximum of six steps. As Jupiter links to both Mercury and Venus this weekend, its presence in our lives will be similarly ubiquitous. And its effects will be most evident when it comes to emotional intelligence. This is a time of creative change. And, as the Sun and Uranus signal breakthroughs, ahead of next week's Full Moon, the cosmos enables interesting connections, that allow us to move forwards together.

Your Weekly Horoscope

More Sally Fisher Art here.

This week, as the Supermoon in earthy Capricorn links to enigmatic Pluto, hidden emotional undercurrents swirl, creating distracting whirlpools that risk destabilising our normal routines. Rather than trying to resist, the best tactic is to go with the flow and trust that the forces are working in our favour. The grounding link between Venus and stable Saturn will help to clarify feelings. By studying the tides, and changing tack accordingly, we can discover ways to feel optimistic about the direction we're heading.
