PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
August 27th to August 31st

MONDAY AUGUST 27
Passing through dimensions

Mrs Toni Jehan from Westcliffe on Sea writes: "I believe that there is no such thing as death. Death is just a horrible word that we have chosen to use. We ought to use a better one; one which acknowledges a passing from one dimension to another. Brian Collis from Ffestiniog, North Wales adds; "Death is not oblivion. Death is a continuation of life. When a person ceases to exist in earthly form, the essence of that person lives on." Many other readers have also sent in ideas about this border between two worlds that one day, we all must cross. If you have a thought - or a feeling - to share, do drop me a line.

TUESDAY AUGUST 28
Leaving the field...

I am still living in a field. Every day, for the past month, I have been waking to the chirruping of the birds. This morning though, I woke up to the beeping of an electrical device. I got out the phrasebook and, after some while, I worked out what it was trying to say. "Your battery is nearly flat." I turned it off and went back to sleep. Ten minutes later, another device started beeping for the same reason. I couldn't stop it - so I went for a walk in the woods. When I got back, the sun was up. The solar panels had recharged the battery. All was silent. And, in that silence, I thought... it's time to go home!

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 29
Weight loss on death and welcome to John Michell

A reader called Matt Warne writes, "I have to disagree on there being no weight, no mass to the soul. Scientists have found that, at the moment of death, there IS a small, but measurable loss of weight (approximately 0.5g). Though not totally conclusive, it does suggest that something leaves the body." Meanwhile, Dr C Patel feels my comments reflect the teachings of Vedanta where, he says, there is a lovely poem: "More radiant than the sun, More fine than ether, Beyond space and time, Beyond all thoughts and emotions, Beyond all grades of matter... is the Self, That Self am I. I am the Imperishable Self."

Site update - We are proud to welcome this week John Michell, a best-selling author and world authority on the mysteries of existence. John writes regular weekly articles for my page in the Daily Mirror newspaper. Now those articles can be read each Wednesday on this site. It is a thrill to have John writing for us about unexplained phenomena. I have been an admirer of his work since I was a teenager. I hope you enjoy his thought-provoking articles. THURSDAY AUGUST 30
Spiritual beings

"Some of us" writes Graham Irwin in an email, "believe that we are spiritual beings first and foremost and human beings second. As spiritual beings we never die. In between incarnations as humans, we exist and work in another dimension. When we reincarnate, we choose the body we will inhabit. We also choose our parents and other aspects of our human existence, including (usually) the nature of our death. We come with a specific purpose. Sometimes that purpose may take seventy years or more. Sometimes just a few short months - or years. When we die, our soul simply vacates the body it has borrowed and returns home."

FRIDAY AUGUST 31
Symbols

Linda from Pittsburgh says, in an email, "A childless couple in their 70's were friends of my parents when I was a teen. The wife had a serious illness and had promised to contact her spouse to let him know if life did indeed exist after death. She lay in hospital for weeks. One evening her spouse had to go home for a rest. During the night there was a loud noise from the basement. He went down to find his 3 policeman's night walking sticks laying at the foot of the stairs, arranged in a perfect peace symbol. They had been hanging on the wall from their leather loops. The leather on all 3 had been torn. Just then, the phone rang. It was the hospital. His wife had passed on."
