PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

November 15 2010 to November 21 2010

Monday November 15
Naming Cancerians

Dear Jonathan,
I am also a Cancerian and hate the connotation of the name. It would be great to change it. Maybe add an H and call it Chancer. Kerrie

I prefer reference to the Moon instead of Cancer. I can appreciate that it is not a nice reminder for those unfortunate enough to have the disease. Sim

Please, don't change the name! Cancer has a strong association with the sea, kindness, femaleness and nurturing. Janine

Moon Children, sounds romantic but wouldn't it be simpler to just go with Crab, crustacean or shellfish? Joel

Tuesday November 16
Cancel Cancer?

Dear Jonathan,
I like being a Moon Child! - And would be honoured to be called that [better than a Cancerian]. Nancy

I'm a Cancerian and I say, keep Cancer. Maybe tweak it to Cancerian. We shouldn't bury something just because it brings up sensitivities. Jory

Mystic Medusa has been running a campaign to change the name of this sign for similar reasons. She has suggested the name, Kataka. Janice

My sign is Cancer too. I think of myself as a Moonchild, but when others ask my sign, I say Cancerian rather than Cancer. Kim

Wednesday November 17
Most Engaging

Kate's a Capricorn. William's a Cancerian. Cancer and Capricorn are 'opposite signs'. In the realm of physical magnetism, opposites attract. But there's more than that to astro-compatability. We have to look at Venus and Mars, in his chart and hers. How do they line up? Read more here.

Meanwhile, another reader writes about renaming the sign of Cancer...

Jonathan,
I am not one who normally voices my suggestions, perhaps in keeping with the Cancerian nature. I have always thought the name for our sign was a little insensitive to those with cancer, and had negative connotations. In my head I have always thought of my sign as 'the moon' since that is the planet that rules it. I would like to suggest that, instead of going off the deep 'twee' end, we call it after Luna, the Roman moon goddess. I think the name should be feminine to further suggest the nurturing aspects of the sign.
Lenny

Thursday November 18
Jupiter and Venus

Jupiter, for some long while, has been dominating the night sky from soon after sundown. To see Venus, you have to be up very early. Normally, both planets shift their positions a little from night to night. Lately, though, their movements have been so slow as to be all but imperceptible. It's not unusual for one planet to be 'stationary' like this. It's rare for two to seemingly stand still as the same time. As of tomorrow, they both start moving forward again. As Venus rules love and Jupiter rules hope, that's got to be seen as extremely auspicious.

Friday November 19
Full Moon

You only get a full moon when the Moon is opposite the Sun, which is why the Moon this weekend, is rising in the East, just as the Sun sets in the West. As soon it grows dark, Jupiter is also revealed, shining so brightly, it looks like Venus. Venus, though, along with Saturn, isn't visible till early morning. Though the outlook is positive, it's always as well to be wary when the full moon falls on a weekend. Just as alcohol is more intoxicating at altitude, emotions cloud our minds more swiftly at this time of the month!

Saturday November 20
Your Week Ahead

Here we are, at last, a new week after Jupiter and Venus have changed direction - plus a powerful Full Moon. If something in your world has been stuck for too long, prepare to see it shift. If someone has been holding back, expect to witness them letting go. If there has been a sense of frustration, get ready for it to be replaced by a mood of positive expectation. Not everything will work out perfectly for everyone all the time... but almost all of us will find something about the next few days that we can feel particularly inspired by.
