PREVIOUS THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

August 18 2014 to August 24 2014

Monday August 18
To Err is Human, to Forgive is Divine (Alexander Pope)

Dear Mr Cainer,
I don't consider you to be qualified in assessing forgiveness; a deluded concept! People don't have to forgive if they don't want to. 'To err is human to forgive is divine,' is just another out-dated rubbish Shakespeare quote! But there again, you are good at taking individual power away from people, aren't you? Trickery! Your ego is ugly and causing people misery and delusion. Anjel

Dear Anjel,

Hurtful though I find your words, I suspect that feeling such fury is hurting you more. Hence my points about letting go...

Tuesday August 19
Moon With a View

Hi Jonathan,
I seem unable to resist buying perfume when the moon is full. What does this mean? Joan

Dear Joan,

It means that perfumers might be wise to time their sales and special offers accordingly!

Dear Jonathan,
I live on the site of an old monastery. When it is full, the moon shines directly into the front window. But only when full. Do you think it was designed with this very effect in mind? Anthony

Dear Anthony,

The effect will only work with some Full Moons of the year, not all... but it may well still be deliberate.

Wednesday August 20
Dwarf Planets

Dear Jonathan,
I recently read an interesting article about Pluto and its moon, Charon. Apparently they may be a pair of dwarf binary planets rather than planet and moon. That creates the possibility of a 'different' influence. Graham

Dear Graham,

Where once, astrologers were deeply deferential to astronomers, decades of being rudely dismissed by our more academic colleagues have made us resistant. Few, for example, can accept the argument that because Pluto is smaller than once thought, it must be inconsequential. The 'twin planet' idea supports our belief that it is too early to demote this heavenly body.

Thursday August 21
The Sound of Silence

Dear Jonathan,
In my daily forecast recently, you asked, 'If a tree falls in a forest where there is nobody to hear it, does it make a sound?' I appreciate that you were making a point about the outlook for my sign but surely, you of all people, know the answer. The world doesn't turn only for our benefit. Isn't assuming otherwise as arrogant as insisting that humans are the only form of intelligent life in the universe? Rose

Dear Rose,

There you raise another fascinating question. Readers with opinions about either matter are warmly invited to write in.

Friday August 22
Brinkmanship

Dear Jonathan,

Thank you for your story about the time you met Robin Williams. I've been struck by how people say they will miss him because of what he gave them yet so little has been said about what he may have needed from us. Lois

Hi Jonathan,

During the recent 'Supermoon' I experienced the rawest of emotions, mainly involving memories of unresolved issues. They nearly took me to the brink. Fortunately I pulled through by doing something I love to do and things settled down. But it was one of the most intense weekends I can remember. David

Saturday August 23
Your Week Ahead

This week brings a New Moon and a conjunction of Mars and Saturn. The former brings, as it does every month, an opportunity to learn something from the past and make a fresh start in a journey towards a better future. The latter signifies, as it does every couple of years, the need to be realistic. Everyone, of every sign, will experience this to some extent. If you find yourself up against an apparently insurmountable obstacle, try not to feel thwarted. This is simply an opportunity to make a compromise that can hasten the attainment of a cherished ambition.

Sunday August 24
Your Week Ahead - Love Focus

Remember, your Love Forecast today doesn't just cover romance. A love forecast may also have something to say about your family life, your closest friendships and even some of your most important working relationships.
