Every so often, experts add an extra second to the day to ensure our time-keeping system stays accurate. I'm always amused by this. It makes me want to ask 'what do you intend to do with your extra blink?' Anyway, all our days are 3 minutes, 56 seconds too long. The 24-hour clock gives only a clumsy approximation of the Earth's actual rotation. Those minutes soon add up. That's partly why we have leap years. This week's powerful Full Moon may yet cause us all to feel as if a little more time might be very useful indeed.
