Gone with the Wind Could you throw some light on a particularly profound image which has stayed with me from a dream? I am with a man, but I can see only our heads which are framed by a full moon. My hair is long and curly, entwined with flowers. We are gazing at each other in a very intense way - rather like something from ‘Gone with the Wind’. I’m looking down on to a very large grey building with four long chimneys. It is shrouded by fog but I can see a carriage and two horses standing in the drive. Jane, Cardiff
Dear Jane,
You explain that the man in the dream is someone you know, who is suffering from depression after his recent divorce. He confides in you and takes your advice. You go on to mention that you have intense feelings for your friend. Yet you also say that he has told you several times that he cannot make you any promises. Although you claim not to know what he is trying to say by this, it sounds as though he is aware of your feelings – but that he isn’t ready to embark on a new relationship.
Your association of the dream image with ‘Gone with the Wind’ indicates that you are nevertheless nurturing a world-class, romantic fantasy about this man. Notice that only your heads appear, floating above the house. This strongly suggests that you are not grounded in reality. The moon symbolises imagination and illusion as well as romance. You mention that, since having this dream, you have seen the unusual chimneys on a manor house which conducts weddings. Now you are wondering if the dream could, after all, indicate a happy outcome.
Whilst you clearly have certain psychic abilities, your dream gives no indication of impending marital bliss. The fog around the house could, just, imply that any such possibility is hidden in the mists of time. It could, though, also mean that your longing for a partner is obscuring your sense of perspective. Your dream is urging you to avoid being carried away by your desires and to accept your friendship for what it is, no more and no less.
