Losing handbag and taking the wrong road For as long as I can remember, I have had dreams in which the theme is ‘loss’. The most frequent dream is about losing my handbag, usually at a party, restaurant or some other public place. Sometimes I lose my bag on a train, or else the terrain departs with my luggage. In other disturbing dreams, I have a specific place to go to. Although I am familiar with my destination and can see it in the distance, I always take the wrong road and never get there. April, London Dear April, What do you keep in your handbag? Most bags contain a purse, keys, make-up and other personal items. In dreams, losing your handbag therefore suggests hidden feelings of insecurity about your identity. You write that you are a widow in your 60s, semi-retired, financially secure and not looking for another partner. On the surface, everything looks satisfactory. What, then, have you lost? Where have you taken the wrong road? You provide the clue when you mention another troublesome dream in which your husband says he no longer loves you. As you were happily married for 25 years, we have to make a distinction between your actual husband and your dream husband. The latter is a discriminating part of yourself which is ‘married’ to the more intuitive side of your personality. He ‘no longer loves you’ because you have ‘lost contact’ with an essential part of yourself. Your seemingly complex dreams have a simple message. It’s not enough just to be outwardly successful. You also need to have relationship with your spirit. You will continue to feel you have lost something until you work out what it needs…and how to supply it. ![]() (Sun Taurus, Moon Scorpio)
