Exploring my new home
I am exploring a house which I have just moved into. The part I am in is quite old, dark and rather dilapidated. It contains some furniture my parents have given me, which I don’t really like but have accepted anyway, as I do not want to hurt their feelings. Suddenly I come to a light, modern room containing some wonderful furniture. I am delighted to find other, similar rooms. This part of the house feels like my ideal home. In reality, I have no plans to move house, so what can this mean?

Vicky W, Beckenham

Dear Vicky
You tell me that you recently returned to college as a mature student. As the house in the dream represents you, it looks as though your new lifestyle has also triggered a change within yourself. Until now, you have allowed your mind to be furnished with your parents’ attitudes. Deep down, though, you know that their views do not really suit you. They belong to an old you, who felt responsible for her parents’ feelings and was therefore anxious to please them. Now, you are evidently ready to move beyond the past and please yourself instead.

The dream suggests that the part of you which remains your parents’ child has been eclipsed by the emergence of amore independent, enlightened element of your nature. These lighter, more modern rooms that you are beginning to come across symbolise the way in which you are becoming the wonderful person you are meant to be.

Your dream is nothing more (or less) than a positive statement about the way in which your outlook is changing.
