Digging Up The Cellar Floor I have a horrible recurring dream in which I know I have murdered someone and hidden the body beneath the cellar of the house I am living in. Although I want to move from this house, I've been unable to do so because of my secret. Some men are digging up part of the cellar floor and I feel very frightened, as I know my crime is about to be discovered. Just lately, the dream has been changing. Now, the area where I have buried the body consists of just the foundations of the house. A wind is gradually blowing away the dirt and I realise the body will soon be revealed. Carol, Basingstoke Dear Carol, Please rest assured that there is absolutely nothing sinister about your dream. It may be horrible, but it has a deep and very important meaning. You tell me you have suffered from a chronic illness for the past 16 years. Constant fluctuations in your energy mean you're unable to live a normal life. You say you suspect your dream is related to your health - and you are right. What you have 'killed off' is a part of your nature which, for some reason, you are afraid to reveal. When we suppress aspects of ourselves, we can feel just as guilty as if we had committed a crime against someone else. Your feelings of guilt are, in effect, paralysing you and therefore making it impossible for you to move forward. The recent developments in the dream, though, indicate that the power of what Sigmund Freud called your Superego, or inner censor, is beginning to wane. The winds of change are now blowing and you are ready to allow a long-buried aspect of yourself to surface. This can only be done by digging down into your psychic depths through whatever you consider to be 'dirt'. I urge you to consider consulting a therapist to assist you in this difficult task. Once you have identified what triggered your illness, all those years ago, you will set in motion your own natural powers of healing. ![]() (Sun Taurus, Moon Scorpio)
