Uncovering the corpse
I have tried to write to you many times for an analysis of this dream, but until now I could not bear to hear your answer. I arrive home to find strangers in the middle of uncovering a dead body that I had carefully hidden some time previously. I never find out who the corpse is. The feeing that I am about to be exposed as a murderer is terrifying. In this dream, which I have had many times over many years, I always wake up jut as the strangers start questioning me.

Theresa, Belfast

Dear Theresa,
You write that you are a 50-year-old grandmother, happily married, and have never been in trouble with the law. Can the dream really be trying to tell you that you are a secret murderess, suffering from amnesia? Of course not - but you do need to identify that 'corpse'. The strong suggestion here is that you are suppressing a feeling, desire or talent. You have evidently kept this important aspect of your nature buried away for so long that its vitality has been extinguished. IN our middle years we need to face unresolved emotional issues and unexplored gifts. Either we must incorporate them into our lives or let them go.

In your letter, you mention that you recently managed to conquer a life-long fear of water and learned to swim. Now you love swimming. The recurring nature of your dream implies that there is a further, even more important discovery to be made. In one sense, you have committed a crime - a crime against yourself. Those strangers represent your own powers of objectivity. They are asking you to face the truth about your hidden potential.
