Putting out the Fire I’m walking down a lane when I notice some buildings in a field have caught fire. I rush to the nearest house to call the fire brigade, but the owner is suspicious. When she does finally let me in, I find the phone doesn’t work. I rush to phone from another house, but when I give the address, the line goes silent and I don’t know if anybody has heard me. Meanwhile, the fire is under control and I am left feeling the emergency services are no longer needed and I’ll have to justify calling them out. Charlotte, Lincoln Dear Charlotte, Fire often symbolises passionate feelings. You write that you have recently moved house several times and that your current home requires a good deal of work. You are also studying at college, supporting your husband, who suffers from depression, and helping your ailing mother. Then you mention that you have ME. Psychologists know that repressed emotions can flare up and sometimes even cause physical symptoms. Could it be that your heroic efforts have led you to suppress some powerful emotions? These now appear in your dream as the fire. The suspicious lady represents an ‘old-fashioned’ part of you which is unwilling to ask for help. When you do manage to report the emergency, though, you receive no reply. This suggests a fear that nobody recognises your need for assistance. Now you wonder if you have made an unnecessary fuss. The dream is encouraging you to accept that you are not Superwoman, but a vulnerable human being who needs and deserves support. ![]() (Sun Taurus, Moon Scorpio)
