My late sister I continually dream about my sister, who died of cancer in 1990. In one dream, I was stroking her feet and she was laughing, but in a more recent one, she was quite cross. Elaine, Maidstone Dear Elaine, You tell me you were so close to your sister that you feel as though a part of you died when she did. Your dreams are trying to help you to come to terms with your loss. Feet usually symbolise how we stand in relation to a situation. Stroking your sister’s feet and making her laugh could simply reflect your efforts to make your sister feel better when she was ill. Since you were so closely identified with her, though, it’s also possible that the dream reflects a subconscious wish to try and make yourself feel better. Your recent dream carries a different message. To feel angry as well as hurt is a perfectly normal response to the death of a loved one. But this begs the question about who is really cross with whom, and about what. Are you cross with yourself because you can’t accept that your sister has died? Are you cross with her because you feel she has abandoned you? Is she cross with you because you’re not allowing yourself (or her) to move on? I suspect you know the answer better than I.
