Dear Sarah I am in a car driven by my mother. Suddenly I hear a commotion and say: 'Stop mother, there are birds under the car'. I get out and gently pick one up. It is a snowy owl. One of its legs is badly damaged and I stroke its chest and tell it how sorry I am. I take it into the car but mother tells me to leave it because it is nearly dead. I don't know what to do. Then I realise with horror that feathers are sticking out of my mouth. Paul, Shrewsbury Dear Paul, Owls symbolise wisdom because of their ability to see in the dark.. In ancient Greece they were sacred to Athena, the hero's divine helpmate. Traditionally, a hero must obey his own judgment, not simply his mother's orders. You need to trust your own instincts, but this ability has been wounded, rather as the owl has been disabled. It's going to take a lot of courage to change. The easy option is to give up and follow commands. The fact that you defy your dream mother's instruction is encouraging, as are those feathers in your mouth. They don't mean you have been eating the owl: rather, they imply that this owl is already within you. A wounded part of your personality can't find a way to express itself, nor can it keep being ignored. The sense of shock is your call to wake up and speak up. ![]() (Sun Taurus, Moon Scorpio)
