The following year we moved into a house that looked exactly the same as the one in my dream. It was haunted by the previous owner, who had died there. The neighbours said he was an unpleasant man and some strange things certainly happened in this house. The dining room was always cold and everyone felt there was a presence in it. I felt it very strongly. Eventually we had the house blessed and two years later we moved away.

Ghosts are often thought to be spirits which are so attached to the place where they died that they cannot move on. They imprint themselves upon the atmosphere, creating an image that sensitive people can feel, or even see. In your dream the tape-recorder, silently going round and round, reflects the fact that the sinister man is stuck in a time-warp. How he came to haunt your dreams before you moved to the house is a mystery that no-one can explain. I suspect it relates to the fact that in dreams, we enter a realm where the normal limitations of time and space no longer apply.
