Ship
Some time ago, I dreamt I was on the deck of a ship that was in immaculate repair. It had a mast and there seemed to be something about a song, although I don't remember hearing one. Water was not visible at any time, but the entire deck was covered in very white snow. Not a lot of snow, but enough to cover it. On the next night, out of the blue, my boyfriend dumped me. I have since looked up some of these symbols and, according to what I have read on-line, most of them are meant to be a good omen. So what went wrong in my case?

Wendy

Dear Wendy,
The web sites you checked in respect of your dream clearly gave you misleading information that seems to be based on little more than mere superstition. Serious dream analysts do not think in terms of ‘omens’. We understand most dreams to be psychic events that reveals the underlying dynamics of a situation or a problem.

A ship in a dream may have several different meanings but it sometimes represents a relation-ship. Since water usually symbolises feelings, snow can signify emotional coldness. Your dream was therefore a message that, although your relationship seemed, on the surface, to be in perfect working order, the reality was that it lacked warmth and vitality. Something between you had frozen.

I am sorry that you suffered the painful experience of being rejected but I cannot help wondering why you were so completely unaware of the fact that all was not well. Could it be that you were reluctant to acknowledge subtle warning signs? Had you been taking your boyfriend for granted – or allowing him to take you for granted? Had you stopped communicating in any meaningful way? By understanding your own role in helping to create this situation, you will ensure that it never happens again.
