Small child I keep dreaming that I discover a small child which I have left abandoned alone in a room for weeks, and forgotten about. I am very distressed when I realise the child has no clothes, only a dirty nappy, and hasn’t been fed for weeks. Yet, strangely enough, it is fit and healthy. I begin a frantic shopping trip to the market for baby clothes and race around trying to prepare it some food. Hilary, Salisbury Dear Frances, You tell me only that you are 52 and have three grown-up children. Without knowing more about you, I cannot offer you an exact interpretation of your dream – so I will suggest some alternative meanings. When a woman in her middle years dreams about a small child it can simply indicate a subconscious yearning to have another baby before it’s too late. Alternatively, the child may represent a vulnerable, sensitive side of yourself. Do you tend to be a little too long-suffering? If so, it’s time you were as sensitive to your own needs as you are to those of others. The dream could be encouraging you to start feeding a neglected side of yourself that needs nurturing. A young child can also signify a new phase of life. Given your age, I suspect this may be the most relevant meaning. Amongst indigenous peoples, women who have brought up children are honoured for the wisdom they have gained. In our culture, we strive to hold on to our youth for as long as possible. Could it be that you are trying to hang on to the past instead of allowing yourself to explore the joys and the privileges of your status as a mature woman? Whichever meaning is the most appropriate, your dream is urging you to wake up and attend to new developments within your psyche. The person who most deserves your tender, loving care right now ..is you! ![]() (Sun Taurus, Moon Scorpio)
