Some people believe in the Devil and see him as the cause of all evil in the world. Others think that human conspiracies are to blame. This brings up an old mystery which no one has ever finally solved. Is there an active force of evil? And if so, who or what is in charge of it?

These are interesting questions, but it is easy to become obsessed with them. In times of change and confusion, when the old order seems threatened, rumours spring up, and certain people are said to be at the root of the trouble. That, throughout history, has been the cause of endless persecutions, most notably the Holocaust.

So who do you blame for the situation in the world today? Some say it is the giant corporations, others hint at conspiracies by secret groups – anarchists, Zionists, Freemasons or Christian crusaders. I can see the attraction of these and other theories, but, in the end, they cancel each other out. Many fanatics would like to dominate the world, or destroy it. But each group hates the others, so they will never make a conspIracy.

So that leads us back to the Devil. If there is such a being, he must be laughing today, seeing nations against nations and no one knowing the real reason for it. He would also laugh at us for not believing in him. That prevents us from seeing what he is up to.
