Welcome to John Michell, a best-selling author and world authority on the mysteries of existence. John writes regular weekly articles for my page in the Daily Mirror newspaper. Now those articles can be read on this site. It is a thrill to have John writing for us about unexplained phenomena. I have been an admirer of his work since I was a teenager. I hope you enjoy his thought-provoking work. Jonathan Cainer

22nd May 2003 - The mysteries of identical twins
It
must be wonderful to have a twin, especially when you are a child. Some
twins are so close that they speak their own dialect before learning
their parents’ language. Often they know at a distance what the other
is thinking and doing. When one is hurt, the other feels the same pain,
and there are many cases of twins having the same accident at the same
time. This has been proved by experiments. One twin was given a sudden
shock or surprise, and the other, miles away, reacted simultaneously.
The greatest mysteries are when identical twins are separated at birth,
but continue to lead parallel lives, unknown to each other. London twins,
Daphne and Barbara, born in 1939 and brought up by different foster-parents,
did not meet till they were 39. Then they found they had both done the
same things, marrying at 16 and each having a miscarriage, followed
by two boys and a girl. Among many other coincidences, their mothers-in-law
were both named Maud and were born on the same day.
Coincidences like that cannot be the result of genes or of telepathy.
They seem to indicate the hand of destiny. If everyone at birth receives
a personal life-pattern, twins are likely to share the same one. It
leads them down the same path and makes the same things happen to them
both. From this we learn how many details in our lives are pre-scripted.
That must be why so many happy couples feel that their meeting was somehow
‘in their stars’.
