You know all this, of course, but what you may currently be forgetting is that some people don't know you. They can't tell, from looking or from talking to you, whether or not you are on the level. Experience has taught them to be wary of others and you have not yet fully reassured them that it is safe to trust you. Be a little forgiving of this.
